Why Ridley Scott Thinks the Film Industry Has Lost Its Edge

Ridley Scott isn’t holding back. At a recent chat down at BFI Southbank in London, he called out what plenty think but won’t say – Hollywood’s knee-deep in dullness. He figures current films swapped fresh ideas for formulaic tricks. When asked why? Straightforward – he says the biz dropped the ball by going after volume instead of value.

He’s got a point. The guy who did Alien and Blade Runner pointed out how there are tons of movies churned out worldwide every single year – yet just a few actually shine. It’s not only about fancy gear or big money – it’s more about missing daring concepts. He straight-up said, “A lot of it is garbage.” Ouch, sure – but honestly? He points to leaning too much on visuals instead

He’s longing for solid tales written down

He claims most filmmakers play it safe when it comes to bold ideas

Scott says what we feel: swap safety for boldness. Creativity in Hollywood could come alive – if makers cared more about thoughts than looks. Talent never left. It simply got ignored.
