Described as a “self-proclaimed northern diva”, Tom aims to impress judges with his “witty, pretty and delicious bakes.” His baking journey began at a young age, mastering the brandy snap by 10 while baking with his nan.
Currently, Tom works in a busy hair salon, where his colleagues frequently enjoy taste-testing his renowned salted caramel brownies. He expressed a long-standing ambition to appear on the show, stating, “I have dreamed about being on Bake Off for so long that I kind of knew one day I would get on.” He was notably surprised to be accepted in his first year of application.
Tom’s “baking super power” is his ability to remain calm and “chill” even when faced with stress, finding relaxation and a flow state in baking. Outside of the kitchen, Tom enjoys travel, having recently spent seven months exploring south-east Asia with his boyfriend.
Diverse Line-Up Features Accessibility Co-ordinator Molly and Former Dancer Nikki
Among the other bakers joining the competition is Molly, a 31-year-old accessibility co-ordinator from London. Molly, also identified as a Great British Bake Off 2026 contestant by Radio Times (Source 1), lives with her husband Ash and their sausage dog Lando. She works for a disability charity, focusing on reviewing accessibility in transport.
Molly’s passion for baking began over 25 years ago, inspired by her grandmother. She enjoys traditional bakes with classic flavours, listing hazelnut, fresh fruit, and mint among her favourites. She turned to baking in 2020 to stay motivated during a difficult health episode. Beyond baking, Molly is a musical theatre enthusiast, a keen Formula 1 fan, and is currently engaged in a substantial cross-stitch landscape project. Her “secret baking super power” is a kitchen that seems to magically clean itself, particularly when her husband is nearby.
Nikki, 50, a former podium dancer from Basingstoke’s Ziggy’s nightclub in the 1990s, will also compete. Now residing in London, Nikki had applied to The Great British Bake Off multiple times before securing a spot. She kept her participation in the initial filming a secret from friends, family, and colleagues, telling co-workers she was away with friends in the countryside, as reported by the Basingstoke Gazette (Source 2).
Nikki expressed that her involvement truly resonated when hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding delivered the iconic line, “on your marks, get set, bake.” She emphasises the importance of positivity in her creations, stating, “Baking is supposed to be fun, and I think that shines through in what I create.” Nikki described an immediate bond with her fellow bakers, making “unforgettable memories” and praising the positive atmosphere facilitated by the contestants, cast, and crew, especially the “absolute angels” of the cleaning team.
The Series Return and Initial Challenge
The 17th series of the popular baking show will commence with a self-portrait showstopper challenge in Week 1. Host Alison Hammond noted that this challenge effectively allows viewers to understand each baker’s unique style from the outset.
Judge Paul Hollywood highlighted the elevated standards for contestants, suggesting that bakers “almost have to be professional just to get into the tent.”
