WARDOGS Game Launch: Early Access and Console Dates Revealed

WARDOGS, the ambitious 100-player tactical first-person shooter, has launched into Steam Early Access today, 10 September 2026, at 5pm BST / 4pm UTC. Developer Bulkhead has also announced plans to bring the game to Xbox and PlayStation consoles in 2028.

Early Access Details and Immediate Availability

The game’s Early Access launch on Steam is accompanied by support for GeForce NOW, allowing players to access the title through cloud streaming without requiring high-end PC hardware, as detailed by NVIDIA Blog. The Early Access build is described by Green Man Gaming as fully playable and representative of the game’s core vision, including its 100-player, three-team matches, dynamic objective zones, and persistent cash and XP progression systems.

Console Release Set for 2028

While PC players can jump into WARDOGS immediately via Steam Early Access, console gamers will need to wait until 2028 for its release on Xbox and PlayStation platforms, according to Pure Xbox. Wishlists are already live on the Xbox Store in anticipation of its future console launch.

WARDOGS Gameplay Explained

Developed by Bulkhead and published by Team17, WARDOGS is set in the derelict industrial mountains of Eastern Europe on a destructible battlefield. It pits one hundred players across three rival teams against each other to control a randomised 2x2km Control Zone within a much larger 256km² map. The objective-focused gameplay, inspired by King of the Hill, rewards the first team to reach 100 points.

The game emphasises tactical gunplay, combined-arms combat, and both construction and destruction elements. Players can utilise infantry, vehicles, logistics, and support roles, with local voice chat facilitating coordination among allies and even interaction with nearby enemies. A persistent cash economy is central to the game, allowing players to assemble custom loadouts and purchase vehicles using money earned through team play, which carries over between matches. Unlike battle royale or extraction shooters, WARDOGS focuses on controlling territory and strategic resource management.

Early Access Development and Community Feedback

Bulkhead expects the Early Access period to last approximately one to two years, during which community feedback will be crucial in shaping the game’s evolution. Feedback will be gathered through Steam, social channels, and playtests, with gameplay data informing balance and economic adjustments. The developer’s broader aim is to provide players with compelling reasons to return to the game beyond the outcome of a single match, with the exact path to version 1.0 being responsive to community input.
